Songoven vs BeatJar: an honest comparison

Songoven and BeatJar look alike from the ad: type a story, get a song. The difference is at the checkout. In the US, Songoven takes your $34.99 first and generates the audio after; you approve the lyrics but never hear the song. BeatJar plays you the whole thing before you pay from US$37.95.

What you hear at BeatJar before paying: the whole song

Who each one is for

These two are the closest match in the category, which is exactly why the checkout difference matters. Both write a song about your person from a story you type.

Pick BeatJar if

  • You want to hear the whole song, not just approve lyrics, before paying
  • You want a refund policy and a guarantee that say the same thing
  • You want revisions that keep the parts that worked, not a whole new song each time
  • You want to keep and share the MP3 without a non-commercial licence limiting you
  • You want the price to be the price, without a ladder of add-ons at checkout

Pick Songoven if

  • A one-hour turnaround is the thing you care about most
  • You want add-ons like a slideshow, a CD, a QR card or a streaming release
  • Approving the lyrics before paying is enough certainty for you
  • You are in a country where they offer a full listen before paying
  • A lower price on the day (it varies) tips it for you

How Songoven works, and the one thing to know

You go through a five-step wizard: recipient, relationship, occasion, style, personal details. It writes the lyrics, and you can regenerate them until you are happy, all before paying. Then, in the United States, you pay, and only then does the system generate two versions of the song. Their own support answer for the US flow is plain: "It is not possible to listen to the song before completing a purchase." So the "Hear your song before you pay" line on their homepage is real, but it belongs to a different country's version of the site; a US buyer approves the words and pays on trust for the music.

That is the whole difference between the two services, and it is worth being exact about. Songoven does more of what BeatJar does than any other company on these pages. It just draws the line at the lyrics, where BeatJar draws it at the finished song.

The fine print worth reading

Two places where the marketing and the contract disagree. The homepage promises a "100% Money-Back Guarantee"; the terms say "we do not offer refunds or accept cancellations once an order has been placed", with refunds "at its sole and unreviewable discretion" and, in practice, only for lateness or a defect they could not fix. And the checkout screen lists a "Commercial use license" as included, while the terms grant a "personal (non-commercial)" licence and state "Songoven and the Affiliated Artists retains all rights". The terms also cap their total liability at "$10 USD". None of this makes them a bad actor; it makes the badge and the contract two different documents, and the contract is the one that binds.

How BeatJar works

You type a few sentences. We write the lyrics, you read them, you hear the whole song, and you pay from US$37.95 only if it is right. The actual song, not the lyrics and a hope. Revisions keep what worked, the MP3 is yours to keep and share, and the price on the page is the price.

What Songoven customers complain about

Themes from one- and two-star Trustpilot reviews, paraphrased. Songoven has not replied to its negative reviews, per Trustpilot's own label.

I sent several tickets and emails and nobody replied; there is no phone number.

At BeatJar: Support silence is the most repeated complaint. BeatJar support is a person on email, and hearing the song before you pay means most problems are settled before money moves.

I paid for the slideshow add-on and the photos were dumped over the song without matching the lyrics.

At BeatJar: Several reviewers report add-ons undelivered or wrong. BeatJar keeps it to one thing done well: the song, heard in full first.

The song cuts out at the end, and the repair tickets went nowhere.

At BeatJar: Defective audio is a recurring theme. You cannot ship a broken song a customer has already heard and approved, which is what the pre-payment listen prevents.

They got the lyrics wrong, admitted it, then wanted me to pay again for the fix.

At BeatJar: At BeatJar a wrong line is fixed before you have paid at all, and revisions after delivery are free.

I was charged twice and never got a song.

At BeatJar: Double-charge reports appear in their reviews. With hear-it-first there is a single charge, taken only once you have approved the finished song.

What Songoven does better, fairly

Speed and extras. A one-hour turnaround is faster than most, and if the occasion is tonight that counts. The add-on catalogue is the widest in the category: a slideshow, a physical CD, a QR card, a streaming release, an instrumental. In some countries they do offer a full listen before paying. And the lyric step genuinely lets you regenerate until the words are right, which is more control at that stage than several rivals give.

Before you order from either

Ask the one question that separates every service in this category: how much of the finished song do I hear before my card is charged. For Songoven in the US, the answer is the lyrics but not the music. For BeatJar, it is the whole song. Everything else, the price, the add-ons, the turnaround, is secondary to that, and you should apply the same question to BeatJar and hold us to it.

Questions people ask

Is Songoven legit?
Yes. Songoven (SONGOVEN LTD.) is a real company that delivers songs, rated 4.9 on Trustpilot from over 3,000 reviews. Two things to know first: in the US you pay before hearing the song (you approve only the lyrics), and their terms say purchases are non-refundable once ordered, despite a "100% Money-Back Guarantee" on the homepage. The commonest complaints are unanswered support and add-ons not arriving.
How much does Songoven cost?
On the day we checked, $34.99 in the US, confirmed by their own pricing feed; Australia was A$26.99, and recent Trustpilot buyers report paying $26.99, so the US price appears to have risen. Add-ons run from $4.99 (extra version) to $29.99 (streaming release).
Do you hear the song before paying on Songoven?
In the United States, no. You review and regenerate the lyrics before paying, but the audio is generated after payment. Their own support answer for the US flow says "It is not possible to listen to the song before completing a purchase." At BeatJar you hear the whole song first.
Can I get a refund from Songoven?
The homepage advertises a "100% Money-Back Guarantee", but the terms of use say "we do not offer refunds or accept cancellations once an order has been placed", with refunds at Songoven's "sole and unreviewable discretion", generally only for late delivery or an unfixed defect.
What does BeatJar cost next to Songoven?
BeatJar is from US$37.95, and you hear the entire song, not just the lyrics, before paying. Revisions are free, the MP3 is yours to keep and share, and the price on the page includes the song rather than starting a ladder of add-ons.
