A song for your mom, about her

She has heard "best mom ever" on forty birthday cards. She has not heard a song with her name in it, the Apple Jacks on the floor in the first verse and the thing you never say in the chorus.

A mother at her kitchen table hearing a song on a phone her daughter is holding up

A song for your mom is an original song written from your own memories of her: what she did every day, what she got you through, what she taught you, what she would want to hear from you now. It is written from a few sentences you type, in the genre she listens to, with her name in the chorus. At BeatJar you read the lyrics and hear the song before paying anything, and it arrives as an MP3 you can play for her on Mother's Day, her birthday, or a Tuesday.

Sons and daughters write us the same thing in different words: she did everything, and nobody ever said so out loud. Some write a page. One wrote four lines about milkshake dates on the drive home. The songs land the same way, because the detail is what she recognises, not the length.

The songs on this page were all written by children, grown up now, for their mothers. Some for Mother's Day, some for a birthday, several for no reason at all. Play one first.

A country birthday song for a mom turning 90

Country · Emotional · Female vocal

  1. 1What they typed into the form

Mom raised me as a single mom. Worked so hard and made our home a happy one despite many challenges including the loss of my brother. Fondest memories are of our beach trips which gave me a live of the ocean.
  2. 2The lyrics we wrote from it

Mom, you always led with grace, Through life's storms, you held your place. In your arms, I found my way, Chasing dreams where ocean waves play. Happy 90th, Mom, with love so true, You've given strength, always knew what to do. From beach trips where our laughter roamed, You made our hearts feel right at home. Through the nights, you worked so hard, Fighting for us, no battle you barred.

What a song can say to your mom that a card cannot

A card has four lines and she reads it once. A song has three verses and a chorus with her name in it, and she plays it in the car, then for her sister, then on the days she needs it. The memories that go in are the ones only you have: the beehive nurse, the quad rides to watch the sunset, the year she raised you alone and never let you feel it.

The research points the same way. Rothwell and Davoodi (2024) found that a warm bond with a parent predicts more flourishing and better mental health decades later, and Ho and Rahaman (2026) found that a secure, close parent-child bond tracks with wellbeing across a whole life. And Janata (2009) documented that familiar music is wired into the part of the brain that holds our memories, which is why a song about her becomes part of how she remembers you. The papers are listed at the bottom of the page.

For Mother's Day

The most common reason people write these. Her name in the chorus beats the brunch reservation.

For her birthday

Sixty, seventy, ninety. One line about the decades, one about now, one about what you want for her.

For what she carried

Raised you alone, worked nights, made the clothes. Name it and the song will.

For a hard year

Illness, a loss, a rough stretch. Say what you watched her get through.

From all the kids

Everyone gets a line. The chorus is the thing you all agree on.

For the thing you never say

Thank you, mostly. Easier to type than to say across the kitchen table.

A song for your mom next to the usual gifts

Song Flowers Card Brunch
Has her name in it
Says what she did, in your words
Tells her story
Still around next year
Works if you live far away
You see it before you pay
A hand writing a few lines about a mother on a notepad beside a cup of coffee
Four lines is enough. The detail is what she hears.

What to put in the story

You are not writing the song. You are telling us about her. Three or four specific things beat a page of adjectives: what she did every day, one memory, one thing she taught you, one line she always says. Here are three stories sons and daughters sent us, exactly as they typed them. Each became a song you can play on this page.

A mother, from her daughter

My Prayer warrior who lifts me up when I am down. My greatest memories are the laughter we shared waving at everyone while drinking around and we didn't even know them. The times we have scared you and and watched you run in place for what seemed like forever. You have brought so much joy and laughter my whole life. You have taught me love, patience, forgiveness all the fruits of the spirit!! I thank God for giving me you!!! The Mother I cherish today and forever!!! I love you momma more than words can say!!! My Rock my momma!!

A mother who raised three with nothing to spare

In June of 1973 I came along you were young yourself and wasn't sure what the world would bring us. Our life was tough we struggled we were poor, as hell but you always showed me loved. Then somewhere down the line you had you just had to give me a brother and a sister what the hell ! You always worked Hard to show us the value of dollar and what a good work ethic was, you showed us never to expect anything to be handed to us. You are my mother there is no other mother like you, I have your eyes, your hair hell we're almost twin's. I can remember the days you woke up to Apple Jacks all over the floor and me signing the song I just called to say I love you from the bottom of my heart

A mother, from her first son

Kathy Ann strong Johnson thank you for taking care of me your first son never gave up on me always taken care of me when my dad didn't thank you for teaching me how to be a man it was a pleasure for me to take care of you when you needed me the day you cried to not knowing how you was going to pay your bills I had you thank mama

None of them is polished. One has no punctuation at all. What they have is her name, one habit, one memory nobody else was there for, and the thing the writer actually thinks of her. That is the whole recipe.

Which sound fits a song for your mom

You pick the genre, the feel and the voice on the order form, and you can change any of them after hearing the preview. If you are unsure, these pairings tend to fit:

  • Country, emotional: the most common choice for a mother, and the one that sounds like you talking to her.
  • R&B, soulful or emotional: warmer and slower, good for a song about what she carried.
  • Acoustic, calm: for a mom who does not like a big production, or for a song about a hard year.
  • Pop or fun, playful: when she would rather laugh than cry, and you have the stories.
  • Gospel or worship: for a mother whose faith is the centre of the story, the way it is in the first song above.

If Mother's Day is this week

The story takes about ten minutes to type, the lyrics and the song come back while you wait, and you choose the delivery window at checkout. The shortest is an hour.

Have the details ready before you start: the cereal on the floor, the nurse with the beehive, the song she sang in the kitchen. Those are the lines she will play back.

Hi Beat jar was so great it was so easy to fill in my details and it was so fast. I was skeptical about the price because I googled other sites and they were more higher but they came through my mom cried when she heard her song and still plays it over and over. Thank you so much you made her day.

BeatJar turned my daughter's song into a beautiful MP3 that brought tears to my eyes the very first time I heard it. They capture every note, every feeling, just as I imagine. It's RARE TO FIND A TEAM THAT LISTENS WITH THEIR HEART AND DELIVERS PURE MAGIC ON THE VERY FIRST TRY. This song will be my Christmas gift to my girls, one that will keep giving love and memories for years to come. Thank you, BeatJar, for creating something so special for this mama's heart.

My mom and dad are in heaven now. But, this is the closest I’ll ever get to them knowing how I feel. My siblings all cried when they heard it.

I was able to copy the song onto an editing software and created a movie with the song. My mom loved it. My dad died a year and a half ago and we miss him terribly. The song was emotional but so sweet too. Adding videos to it made it that much more special. Thank you!

Absolutely should do. I made 2 songs 1 for my boyfriend who truly is our world and 2 for my mom who just lost her mom this month. The reactions and emotions were more than anything they could unwrap. I highly suggest this as a gift.

The song that was created for my wife Joy was amazing. It was everything I wanted to say to her from my heart put into a song. She plays it every day. When she first played the song we both cried and listened to it 5 more times to hear every word again and again. BeatJar you have really gave my wife a amazing gift. I recommend you to everyone who is thinking about giving this as a gift. It is well worth it for sure!

When my wife figured out the song was about her, she choked up crying. She was smiling, crying, hugging me and laughing. She told me afterwards this gift - the song, is the best gift I gave her. She said "you do lots of kind things for me, but this one was the best, it was perfect."

Questions sons and daughters ask

What should a song for my mom say?
What she actually did, specifically. The job she worked, the thing she never missed, the memory only the two of you have, the line she always says. The stories behind the songs on this page run from four lines to a page. Her name goes in the chorus.
Can it be from all of us?
Yes. Say who is writing and give one thing from each of you. Songs from several children usually give each a line and put the shared memory in the chorus.
Can I hear it before I pay?
Yes. You read the full lyrics and hear the song before paying anything. If it is not right, change it or walk away.
What if my relationship with my mom is complicated?
Write only what is true. "Thank you for the things you got right" is honest and kind. The song does not need a version of the relationship that does not exist, and you approve every line before it is made.
Which genre should I pick?
Whatever she listens to. For songs for a mom, country is chosen most, then acoustic. You can change it after hearing the song.
Can it be for a stepmom, a grandmother, or the person who was mom?
Yes. Say who she is to you and the song is written that way. Several of the songs on this page are for a mother who was not called Mom.
What does it cost?
From US$37.95. The price depends only on how fast you want it delivered, and you see it before you pay.
