A custom birthday song is an original song written about one person for their birthday: their name, the things they have done, the jokes only your family gets, set to music in the style they like. At BeatJar you type the story, read the lyrics we write from it, hear a preview, and pay only if it is right.
Most birthday gifts get a thank-you and a shelf. A song gets played in the car on the way to dinner, sent to the group chat, and played again next year. That is the difference between a present and a thing they keep.
The songs on this page were made for real birthdays by people who typed a few sentences into our form. Play them first. If you can imagine the person you are thinking of hearing one with their own name in it, the rest of the page is for you.
Real birthday songs, made from real stories
Each one started as a few sentences typed into our form. Press play, then read the story it came from.
he never wants anything for his birthday but the kids and I love to celebrate him. He works so hard and gives so much to others. He started working out of town during the week and we can’t wait for him to come back home on the weekends. Racing down the highway back home to us. Every birthday he says he’s 25. He loves Superman and I call him our Superman
2The lyrics we wrote from it
I don't need much, just a simple dayWith you and the kids, watching shark tankI'm working hard in that out-of-town landRacing down the highway to hold your handYou still say you're 25, we smile and laugh it throughBut baby you’re our Superman, there’s nothing you can’t doWe count the days 'til you walk through the doorFriday nights at home, we couldn't ask for moreSo here's to you, on this special dayHey pops, we celebrate you in every way
A birthday is the one day a year the attention is officially on them, and most of us still reach for the same three things: dinner, a card, something from a wish list. They are fine. They are also forgettable by the following Tuesday.
A song does something a gift cannot. It says, out loud and in front of everyone, exactly what you think of this person. The year they moved across the country. The way they laugh at their own jokes. The thing they did for you that you never properly thanked them for. Put that in a chorus and watch what happens to the room.
The research on gifts points the same way. According to Flynn and Adams (2009), how much a gift costs has almost no bearing on how much the person appreciates it; what they respond to is the thought behind it, not the money spent. Experiences tend to beat objects for the same reason, a pattern Van Boven and Gilovich (2003) documented: the value is in what you feel, not what you unwrap. And music is unusually good at carrying memory: Janata's brain-imaging study (2009) found that hearing a familiar song activates the same medial prefrontal regions that store our autobiographical memories, which is why a chorus with their name in it still works years later. All three papers are cited at the bottom of this page.
For a partner
The story of you two, from how you met to the mess you have built together. The most common birthday song we make.
For a parent
The things they did that you only understood once you were older. These are the songs that get played at the table and cried over.
For a child
A song about who they are right now, at eight or eighteen, that they will find embarrassing at twenty-five and priceless at forty.
For a friend
The inside jokes, the shared disasters, the standing Tuesday call. Upbeat works best here.
For a milestone
A 30th, 50th, 70th. Sixty years of stories fit in three minutes better than you would think.

What to put in the story
This is the part people worry about, and it is the easy part. You are not writing the song. You are giving us the material. Three or four specific things beat a page of adjectives every time: a place, a habit, a line they always say, the year something changed.
Here are three stories from real birthday orders, exactly as the customers typed them, typos and all. Each one became a song you can play on this page.
Husband and dad
he never wants anything for his birthday but the kids and I love to celebrate him. He works so hard and gives so much to others. He started working out of town during the week and we can’t wait for him to come back home on the weekends. Racing down the highway back home to us. Every birthday he says he’s 25. He loves Superman and I call him our Superman
Wife, turning 40
She says a prayer for me before I go to work. We take naps together on the couch. Shes turning 40 may 7th. We love to sit infront of the fire place with coffee
Mom, turning 90
Mom raised me as a single mom. Worked so hard and made our home a happy one despite many challenges including the loss of my brother. Fondest memories are of our beach trips which gave me a live of the ocean.
Notice what they have in common: a habit, a place, a number, a line they always say. That is enough. Write more if you want to. A list is fine too.
Which sound fits which person
You pick the genre, the feel and the voice on the order form, and you can change your mind after hearing the preview. In our order records, country is the style most people choose for a birthday song, ahead of R&B. If you are unsure, these pairings tend to fit:
For a dad or a grandad, country with a male vocal is the safe choice; acoustic if he is quieter.
For a partner, country, acoustic or R&B with a romantic or emotional feel. A duet works when the song is about the two of you.
For a mom, R&B or acoustic with an emotional feel. These are the ones that get played at the table and cried over.
For a kid or a teenager, pop and upbeat, with their sport or their obsession in the chorus.
For a friend or a sibling, fun or playful. Country and hip-hop both carry a roast.
For a milestone birthday, nostalgic: a slower tempo, the decades in order, a bridge that lands on who they are now.
Milestone birthdays: 30, 40, 50, 60, 70 and beyond
A milestone birthday is where a song does its best work, because there is a whole life to draw from and everyone in the room knows the references. The structure writes itself: a verse for where they started, a verse for what they built, a chorus that says who they are, a bridge for what the family wants them to hear.
For a 60th or 70th the song often becomes the centrepiece of the party. People play it after the speeches, or as a surprise during dinner, and it gets sent to the relatives who could not make it. For a 30th or 40th it tends to be a private gift first and a group-chat hit second.
If the birthday is a big one, tell us the number and the decades that mattered. We will make sure the song covers the ground.
When the birthday is tomorrow
If the birthday is tomorrow, or tonight, that is fine. The story takes ten minutes to type, the lyrics and the preview come back while you wait, and you choose the delivery window at checkout. The shortest window is an hour, so a same-day song is normal for us.
What you should not do is rush the story. Ten specific minutes beat two vague ones. Have the memories ready before you start.

I gave a song to my husband for his birthday. At first he started listening and you could see his face change as he realized it was about us. He sat up straighter, looked over at me and wiped his eyes, and you could see that he loved it. But I think he was so shocked that it didn't really sink in until the 2nd time he listened to it and followed the words - then he really cried! Now he wants all the kids, our family and friends to hear it too.

She started listening, then her face went blank. Here started running down her face. She loved it. Said it was the best birthday present she has ever gotten in 73 years. Thank you for the song and the memories.

I made a song for my son's birthday. I shared a few memories and feelings to project, the song that I received was so perfect. I cried when I heard it. I had to wait 2 weeks to give it to him. (I really wanted to have him hear it right away, but I waited) On his birthday, we were sitting down to watch a movie and I started the song. The look on his face was priceless, he cried, we hugged for a long time. New fantastic memories. Thank you for creating a perfect gift! And the cost was better than others I saw.

I hesitated in doing this song thing, I was worried about a scam or up sales. They produced what they promised, for what they quoted and it turned out fantastic.
It was for my wife's Birthday and her tears were testimony to how well the song was created. I highly recommend this service.

Questions people ask about birthday songs
How personal does it actually get?
As personal as what you type. Their name is in the song. If you mention the 2014 road trip, the dog, or the way they hum while cooking, it can go in the lyrics. If you leave something out, we do not make it up.
What if I am not a writer?
You do not need to be. Most people send us a few sentences or a list: who they are, what you love about them, one or two memories. The average story we receive is around 100 words. We do the writing; you approve it.
Can I hear it before I pay?
Yes. You read the full lyrics and hear a preview of your song before paying anything. If it is not right, change it or walk away.
How fast can I have it?
You choose the delivery window at checkout. The shortest is an hour, so a same-day birthday is fine.
Which genres can I pick?
Country, acoustic, R&B, pop, rock, soft rock, hip-hop, jazz, reggae, electronic and more, with a female, male or duet vocal. For birthdays, country is chosen most, then R&B.
Can the song be funny?
Yes. Pick a fun or playful style and tell us the jokes. A roast works best when the details are specific: the parking, the airport incident, the way they order coffee.
Is it a real song or a jingle?
A full song with verses, a chorus and a bridge, usually two to three minutes long. Not a thirty-second clip.
What does it cost?
From US$37.95. The price depends only on how fast you want it delivered, and you see it before you pay.
